Concrete Experience

On Thursday, September 25th, we had the first day of our practicum. I prepared as early as I could to avoid being late on my first day. I went to the HR office at the city hall to retrieve the necessary documents and present them to my assigned office so I could formally begin my work. A lot happened, and I felt overwhelmed by the number of people I interacted with, mostly because I had to ask for directions and locations. My introverted nature was greatly challenged that day, but thankfully, I was able to carry on and accomplish my tasks.

In the afternoon, our office initiated an orientation for us interns, I attended the orientation along with my classmates on 1:00pm, where we carefully listened to the rules and guidelines. The orientation ended on 1:44pm, we were released and told to formally start on Monday because there will be staff for next day; to kill the time we met with our other classmates whose orientation are also finished and proceed to stroll around the plaza.

Reflective Observation

I learned that our office has many responsibilities, and every five days, we interns will be assigned to different programs. In the office, I observed how the staff and employees work, and I noticed that their tasks mainly involve paperwork, calls, permits, projects, and more. I admired the members of the workforce because they are always busy, and their responsibilities extend not only within the office but are also extended out in the field.

Abstract Conceptualization

The Systems Theory of Ludwig von Bertalanffy can be incorporated to my knowledge on how the office runs as its functions were like a system of interconnected parts that must work to achieve a common goal as I noticed the staffs and employees handles different responsibilities. This idea means that if one part is delayed or inoperative, it will affect the overall system. Due to the nature of our assignment that is going to be rotated in every 5 days, we are able to integrate ourselves on the system. It is apparent that through this method we can learn on how each section and linked and on how to contribute to its processes.

Future Application

I will apply what I learned in the future by recognizing the value of teamwork and coordination in any workplace to complete upcoming tasks smoothly and without delays. In terms of my introverted tendencies, the logical steps would be to continue socializing with other people not necessarily through big interactions, but even through simpler conversations in order to greatly improve my social skills. Next time, I would also like to practice on being adaptable in order to easily cope up to the rotation of assignments per weeks.
