Concrete Experience

Last Wednesday, I attended our class in the Education Building, which served as a formal space for the lecture that was still part of our preparation for the upcoming internship. During the session, we received a lot of useful information, such as the different learning styles of individuals and personality assessments. Personally, I really wanted to find out what type of personality I possess, not only because of my curiosity but also as a way to understand myself better. I reflected on my common moods and traits in hopes of identifying my personality, and I searched several online sites that offered Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) tests. Eventually, my answers led me to the ISTP personality type, I reviewed the results and I found it to be true in many aspects. In the Learning Style Inventory (LSI) activity, I examined myself based on the given choices, recorded my findings, and ended up in the Assimilating style category. I reviewed the results; however, there are times when I feel unsure whether they are accurate or not. We also had a lecture about laws that could be useful for our protection, where I learned about the importance of laws in ensuring everyone’s safety, especially when dealing with real-world situations. Specifically, Ma’am Ruhama Gomez discussed the Safe Spaces Act (Republic Act No. 11313).

Reflective Observation

In terms of the lesson on the Safe Spaces Act, at first, I felt unsatisfied with the provisions of the law, thinking that it was only limited to women. However, I later discovered that it also applies to men, which gave me a sense of security and hope that someone is there to protect me in times of vulnerability. I observed Ma’am Gomez’s examples and reflected on them in relation to my personal experiences. While some of her examples seemed funny to me, there were also others that hit me right to the bone not necessarily because they happened to me, but because I remembered some friends of both genders who had shared their unfortunate experiences with me in the past, which aligned with Ma’am Gomez’s examples. In some ways, I felt sad that I was not able to help them due to my lack of knowledge about this law, but on the other hand, I am also thankful because if I encounter similar situations in the future, I can confidently help them through my new understanding of the Safe Spaces Act. At certain times, I wondered whether I am fully prepared for the internship or if I will be assigned to my preferred HTE. I acknowledged the things I lack compared to others, as well as I recognized my own strengths and weaknesses. Despite this, I hope that I am qualified for the HTE that I want.

Abstract Conceptualization

During the week, my activities are in lined with Kolb’s Experiential Learning Model due to the fact that I attended a lecture about Safe Spaces Act and spend time on activities about determining what are my personal MBTI and LSI. I thought that it is logical to identify your personality and learning styles because it enables you to adapt quickly in learning situations and gives confidence by being self-aware of what you are. In my personal observation, the activity of identifying your personal MBTI and LSI is similar to the study of history because in history we often look on the reoccurring themes and patterns in human events and in the case of MBTI and LSI we look for patterns in learning preferences, personality and behaviors.

Future Application

In the upcoming weeks, I will continue to practice on how to engage with other people to build confidence in social interactions, just as I stated in my previous journal. I will also try to practice caring, listening, and understanding others, since I noticed these are the areas I lack based on my learning style and personality results. By doing so, I hope to create balance within myself and be able to work better with others. Whenever someone needs aid or support, I will try to implement the things I have learned from the lectures and, hopefully, build meaningful connections.
